In all sports and traditional business models, as well as network marketing, good coaching is essential. While it would be great if we were born with the tools and knowledge to succeed, the truth is that very few if anyone comes “pre-equipped” with everything it takes to succeed.
Even the most respected coaches, motivational leaders, business people, consultants and top network marketers learned their craft from someone. That someone saw in each of them traits that are the necessary foundation for success:
- A burning desire
- Teach-ability
- Willingness to work
These three traits can be found in anyone. For a few it is visible, however for many of us these traits are deeply embedded. Can they be brought out? Of course they can. All it takes is someone to help with a proven success plan.
Some of the greatest coaches and motivational speakers began with humble beginnings. Tony Robins, Zig Ziglar, Eric Worre, Robert Shuller and many others are all well known motivational speakers and coaches. They learned from someone.
Many of well known sports coaches had failures but learned from each failures and are now in the hall of fame. Vice Lombardi, Tommy Lasorda, John Madden, Yogi Berra, Wayne Gretzky, Bear Bryant and Tom Landry are only a few who were coached by someone.
Let’s look at the three traits and how YOU, as a good coach can build upon and help and guide others. Or dig deep and become the person others will come for help and advice. Good network marketing coaching can be learned.
A BURNING DESIRE
Your new recruits came to you for a reason… Maybe they were attracted by your company’s product or service. Maybe they liked the idea of being their own boss. They could have been in another MLM Company but your company’s compensation plan was more appealing.
I’m going to take a different approach. They came to your business opportunity because of YOU. People join your opportunity not because of the MLM Company, (part of the equation) but because of you.
Whatever the case, it is now your job as a coach to know about each person’s motivation so you can tailor your coaching to make the most of it.
The person attracted by your product or service with A Burning Desire will need coaching on the best approaches to use with prospective customers or getting leads and recruits. The person who wants to run his own show probably needs some mentoring on “focusing, commitment, marketing taking it one day at a time.”
Your new team member whose interest is mostly money-driven could use two things: One a Step-By-Step Plan Of Action or what I call Attraction Marketing. However, only focusing on “money making” is not the way to build a success network marketing business. Two: Solving problems and helping is the success building formula. Again this is the formula of Attraction Marketing.
Business strategist Rob Liano says, “If you want to find money, focus on people. If you want to lose people, focus on money.”
Zig Ziglar said, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”
Once you are aware of each new recruit’s reason for joining your team, build on that foundation. This means that your successful coaching can never be “one size fits all.” Your job is to take each person from where he/she is and help him/her to get where he wants to be. This takes some creativity and often a bit of discipline.
If your new recruit:
- joined because of the products. Spend time showing the products and the advantages their customers will enjoy using the products.
- joined because of the compensation plan. Go over the plan and together determine where they want to be in the next 90 days. Then show them how this can be done.
- came to you because they want to be their “own boss.” Show them how Network Marketing is a great vehicle for someone to establish a business and growing it to the point of being their “own boss.” Your coaching is to show them how this can be done.
As eager as they might be, your coaching is to help in “small bites” not in “big gulps.” Take it slowly and be the mentor or coach they were looking for. You’re not a friend in this case you are a coach. Word of caution (this happened to me), don’t build the business for them. Many will drive you nuts by taking your time and not allowing you to build your own business.
A good coach is someone to be there for them. To help and guide. Keep the basic training short and sweet. Your recruit needs to grow on their own.
TEACH-ABILITY
Tonya Sheridan says, “Closed minds close doors.” These four simple words are as true in network marketing as they are in all the rest of life’s pursuits.
Being teachable is such an absolute essential for a new recruit that I’ll go out on a limb here and say: If your new recruit is not teachable, the chances of his/her success are pretty slim.
You will have greater success as a coach if you spend your time and effort with people who want to learn how to build a success network marketing business through the company’s product or service and your valuable advice.
WILLINGNESS TO WORK
As Yoda Berra said, “There is no ‘try.’ There is only ‘do.’” Too often, the person whining probably figured he could put in a few hours of work each week – call two or three people, maybe, or send out a few emails – and his new business would thrive.
If you are the coach of this kind of team member, you will need to give him/her a reality check. Business CEO and retired Navy Admiral Tom Fargo said it best, “Don’t tell me about your effort. Show me your results.” (Pretty much the same thinking that Yoda said!)
People who come into network marketing to escape working are doomed to be disappointed. Yes, you can work on your own schedule and you are not at the beck-and-call of a boss anymore, but network marketing takes work, commitment, focus and desire if you want to succeed.
Perhaps you’ll need to sit down with your whiner and set up a work schedule. Make a plan of action. Set short-term goals that are completely achievable. Follow up frequently, especially in the beginning – until your baby bird can fly on their own.
By way this is the power of Attraction Marketing. Get your recruit into Attraction Marketing and your time will be your own. THIS IS WHAT A GOOD COACH DOES. Helps and advises, not do it for them.
As author David Kirby says, “I can help, but in the end it is up to you.” As a coach, you also have to know when to push the baby bird out of the nest… as you move on to your next coaching recruit.
You will gain a lot of respect not only from your recruit but from your team.
You are, after all, building a team of successful individuals. That’s what good coaches – in sports, business and network marketing – does.
So look for prospects with a burning desire who are teachable and willing to work. Then do the work of a coach. To paraphrase author T. Jay Taylor, successful coaching is Converting people’s dreams into goals and goals into success.
When you as the coach accomplish this, every network marketer knows this is a win-win for both of you!
Coaching and helping is such a valuable resource, that many have created a career just on coaching. As a network marketer, gaining this skill is powerful. Remember, this can be learned. If you feel you don’t have this ability, I will tell you this, “the ability to learn and be a coach is a skill all of us possess. All it takes is Desire, Teach-ability and Work.”
Network Marketing Success With Coaching is really quit easy . It may seem impossible at first, however with a little time, desire, patience and doing, Coaching in Network Marketing can be very rewarding to your bank account.
Now it is your turn to be the mentor and coach.
Here’s to your success,
