This post will be really helpful if you want to be exceptional and successful in any aspect of your life (business, family, relationships, etc.), however, you always seem to find yourself struggling on how to move forward. I’ll dig a lot deeper into this concept.
But before I do, something that I found that was holding me back from being incredibly successful in business and has held back several of our students leading them to quit before even getting started came down to one critical question… How can I do it all?
If you’ve ever caught yourself saying, “I need to lose weight”, “I need to be a better spouse”, “I need to get my business off the ground and start making money”, “I need to call back my friend who left me a message 2 weeks ago”. Then this may help.
I found that in order to become successful in business, my focus on certain elements of my life had to be put to the side. That’s when I learned the 4 Quadrant Focus and it helped me immensely focus and accomplish the goals I wanted to achieve. And chances are…
…If you’re struggling to hit your goals right now, it’s because you’re focusing on too many of these 4 Quadrants at once.
Why People Quit Before They Even Begin is because they try so hard to do too much too soon. They simply get over whelmed, frustrated loss of focus and quit.
Inside I break down each the top four quadrants that the majority of people find valuable and what it takes to truly be successful:
The four quadrants are: Business, Life, family, friends.
Business
When you have a business many people fail because they take on too much too soon. For instant, when I started my home business, I soon became overwhelmed in all the “things, issues, training, how-to’s, operations and many others” in order to operate a successful business.
It wasn’t until my mentor Ferny, told me put blinders on and focused on one aspect of your business until you get good at it. Then and only then do you move on to your next part of your training. In my case I focused on Blogging. Once I mastered (which you never will) blogging, I then went on to Facebook. Once I master Facebook (which you never will) will I move on to Instagram.
I see so many fail because they try to take on too much. If your in network marketing, you will be told to recruit anyone within 3 feet..by the way that is wrong and I can prove it. While recruiting you will need to prospect, you will need to sell, you will need to show your product, you will need to know the advantage of your product, you will need to train others, you will need….and the list goes on.
For most people this is too much to do and they soon become overwhelmed and quit. I see it everyday.
Focus on one. Focus on your product until you can demo it in your sleep. Then get good at prospecting…then…then. Get the idea?
Life
Another area that gets people in trouble is not living Life. Many times I see people spend so much time in the “business” they fail to enjoy life.
A good friend spent every waking hour on this business. He failed to live a life outside of him network marketing business. While he soon had a successful business, he was not enjoying himself and soon quit because his life was all wrapped in “the business.”
Life is too short not to enjoy. That time away from the business is very healthy and believe it or not your business will grow.
Example: While I was in corporate life, I was “married” to the job. It was not unusual to work 10-11 hours a day. The same for my team. Years later, I attended a seminar in which the speaker talked about productivity. Studies showed that your productivity drops over time with putting too much time in your work. His comment was “after xx hours your attention begins to suffer.” “So if you put in 11 hours, you are only getting 9 hours of actual productivity.”
Take time from your business to live life.
Family
Just like living life to the fullest, you need to spend time with your family.
The example I gave above with the friend who quit because he was not enjoying life also lost his family. He failed to see his kids plays, dance, ballgames. He failed his wife in not taking time to go out once in a while. When he quit his business, his family was gone, his marriage was gone and it took years to get the kids back again. He never got his wife back.
Sad story but sets the example that you must balance your life, business and family.
Friends
We all need friends. Friends we can spend time with. To relax, to have a cook-out, to be with. Friends are important to our overall health and wellbeing.
So how do you avoid all of the issues while trying to build a business?
Do what I do and what I have been taught. When I am working on my business I also include and spend time with the family. I ignore Life and Friends for that time.
When enjoying Life which is going, seeing and doing I also include Friends. During this time I ignore by business.
Simply break your “what ever” into 4 quadrants. Label each quadrant and only work on one or two at the most. Do this for 30 days or 60 days. Then shift you attention to another quadrant or two for 30 days to 60 days.
This is the exact strategy I have been using to uncomplicated my life. I now get more done in less time and enjoy each of the four quadrants.
Cheers,
