Are you looking to build a successful business? A business that can earn a good income? Build a good financial future? The ability to quit your job if you want to? To travel anywhere you want anytime you want?
Well you’ve come to the right place.
There are 5 tips to a successful business that all successful entrepreneurs know.
In fact, without implementing these 5 business tips you’ll likely face an uphill battle with your home based business.
There’s even a good chance you won’t get your home based business off the ground.
Whether you’re in…
- Direct Sales
- Affiliate Marketing
- Network Marketing
- You own a franchise
- Small Business owner
- Brick & Mortar business owner
- MLM business with an MLM Company
… these 5 tips to a successful business are meant for you!
Let’s examine these 5 tips to build a successful home based business one at a time, starting with…
1.) Sense Of Urgency
Often times when people start off building a home based business their attitude is…
“I think I’ll try this and see how it goes.”
Or…
“I hope this works for me too.”
Or…
“I’ll give it 90 days and if it doesn’t work out I’ll quit.”
Have you ever seen someone just jump in a swimming pool? While others will dip their toe in to feel the water? What am I getting at? If you only dip your toe in (I’ll try) you have already lost. If you say, “I am jumping in all the way and not looking back.” It’s that person that will WIN all the time.
TRY, is not an attitude of urgency.
Rather, it’s preparing your excuses for when things don’t work out the way you’d hoped.
Instead your attitude has to be…
“I need to make this happen now! I’m going to make this happen now! I’m not waiting around for success to possibly find me!”
Look, if you don’t have this sense of urgency and importance… your business won’t succeed….period.
Furthermore, if you have a lackadaisical approach to your business you will not succeed as an entrepreneur.
You might as well go get a job (or keep your job) and don’t frustrate yourself trying to be an entrepreneur.
Look at any athlete. If they just try, they will go nowhere. When they commit, when they have a sense of urgency, they make history.
Find that Sense Of Urgency and you can/will succeed.
2.) Confidence
The second of the 5 tips to a successful business is Confidence.
Confidence to move forward and to take action. And action will build Confidence. The more Confidence, the more action. They go hand and hand.
Did you know that confidence is a decision? Somewhere along the line someone made a decision. Making a decision is tough. But making a decision will build confidence.
Confidence is something you can actually choose.
It’s important to note here that confidence is not the certainty that you will succeed.
Confidence is the certainty that you will act regardless of what the outcome might be.
In real world terms it can look like this…
Confidence is not walking up to a girl and know that when I ask her out she’ll say “yes”.
Confidence is deciding to walk up to that girl and introduce myself and then see what happens.
Simply put, confidence is the willingness to take action without knowing what the outcome might be.
By the simple act of DOING or DECIDING TO DO will build confidence.
3.) Specialist
The third of the 5 tips to a successful business is become a Specialist.
You’ve got to become a specialist in something. If you’re not a specialist you won’t have value.
Think about this… in regards to doctors, who gets paid more?
The generalist (the family physician) or the brain surgeon?
The brain surgeon does!
Why?
Because the brain surgeon is a specialist. He/she has made that decision to specialize on something.
You might be thinking…
“Bill, I just started. I’m still trying to learn the basics.”
To that question, I’m going to say, “That’s okay.” You have to start somewhere.
Going back to the brain surgeon, they started. They had to learn the basics then become a specialist.
It takes time to become a specialist.
You have to work towards becoming a specialist.
It doesn’t happen overnight (just ask the brain surgeon).
However, no matter where you are in your home based business or marketing….
You need to start thinking about what kind of specialist you want to be.
So I’m planting the seeds in your head right now…
Start visualizing what kind of specialist you will be,
And…
How will you help people as a result of this specialization?
4.) Teacher
The fourth of the 5 tips to a successful business is to become a Teacher.
More specifically, become a teacher and teach what you’ve learned along the way.
This will increase your value and get you paid more.
The easiest way to do this is to teach on something you’ve recently learned and implemented for yourself.
If you learned a new way to generate leads with Facebook, you could write a blog post or shoot a video showing exactly what you did to generate the leads.
(We will even show you how to get more leads with Facebook)
The simple act of teaching builds Confidence, you will be Specialist, and you will actually learn more by Teaching.
True Story: I taught a class of very knowledgeable professionals. My advantage was that I was the Teacher on the subject. The more I taught the more I learned.
If you’re wondering whether or not people would want to listen to you (or all the other established gurus out there)…
Ask yourself this…
“Why are their new rock bands that come along who make new music and sell albums?”
It’s because people are always looking for a new fresh voice or perspective on something.
If this wasn’t the case then we’d all still be listening to Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach.
In addition to these great composers, we listen to Journey, Aerosmith, Air Supply, Adele, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, The Beatles, and the list goes on.
New voices, new in site, new way to say something, a new sound.
As soon as you realize this you’ll be able to get over any hangups you may have about “Why would they want to listen to me?”
5.) Understand The Real Value
The last of the 5 tips to a successful business is to Understand The Real Value of your product or service.
Understand that people aren’t buying a product… they’re buying what they believe it will get them (the result).
For example, nobody buys a treadmill because they want a big machine to take up space in the spare bedroom.
They buy a treadmill because they want to get in shape. Or they want to lose weight…or
Or maybe even more powerful…
… they want to feel better about themselves when they look in the mirror and therefore regain their Confidence.
Once you fully understand the real value of your product you’ll be able to sell more of it and help more people.
There are two things you can do to achieve a true understanding of the value of your product:
1.) Start With Pain:
Know your target audience, their pains, and what keeps them up at night.
The best way to understand your audience’s pain is to create a Customer Avatar…
… and wrap your message and marketing around your customer avatar. We will teach you how to create a Customer Avatar.
Your marketing needs to address the “pain points” your customer avatar is experiencing.
Make them aware of their pain and how your product will alleviate that pain.
Your customer avatar is someone who wants to loose weight. You understand their pain, you talk about the pain, what the pain means to them, then how you can solve the pain.
2.) Amplify The Pain:
Make your audience realize what really happens if they don’t fix the pain.
The two greatest motivators for people are to:
A. Move away from pain
B. Move towards pleasure
Often times people will be more motivated to move away from pain than to move towards pleasure.
From a marketing standpoint, this is where you need to “twist the knife” and really agitate their pain.
By agitating the “pain” you’ll motivate the prospect to take action (buy your product) in order to move away from that pain.
If you’re Business to Business – make them realize how their business will suffer if this problem isn’t addressed and fixed.
Place a real value on that lost revenue or “expense” for them if they don’t fix the pain.
Making the “pain” tangible (i.e. lost revenue, lost customers or lost productivity) will help to move the decision maker in the direction of investing in your product.
If you’re Business to Customer – paint a picture of what life will look like if this “pain” never goes away.
What kinds of things will they NOT be able to do?
What aspects of life will be left unfulfilled if the pain is not dealt with?
Additionally, make sure you appeal to the emotional side of the situation.
Most buying decisions are based on emotion and then later justified with logic.
By providing compelling, emotional reasons for buying your product you’re anchoring positive emotions such as…
- Confidence
- Acceptance
- High self esteem
- Love
… to your product.
Furthermore, you can anchor negative emotions (loss, loneliness, stress, etc.) to life without your product.
When done correctly and ethically, amplifying the “pain” through the use of emotion is a powerful way to move people to make a buying decision.
