Starting A Home Based Business

Starting a Home Based Internet business is a great idea, as it gives lots of liberty and freedom to work according to one’s wish and interest. There are lots of myths and misconception associated with Internet Based Business.

5 Tips for Startup Success

Follow this advice to improve the odds of success when you start your home business.

You have selected the best opportunity that fits your requirements.  This could be a product of your own, MLM, Blogging, Affiliate, Network Marketing or a multitude of other ideas. You are convinced this new business is the key to your successful future.

Now what? The best way to improve your odds of success is to move slowly and carefully in starting your business. Do so, and you can join the 70 percent of businesses that succeed in their first two years, according to the SBA.

  1. Begin with a plan. Not all home businesses need an official business plan, but every home business owner must spend some time planning. Before you begin, sit down and determine how much money you need to invest and in what.  What are your goals (short- and long-term) and your marketing plan (we can help you here)
  2. Find a mentor.  Find someone who is successful in the business you plan on developing and copy them.  The best way to success is not to reinvent but to copy and improve.  A true mentor will help you. Seek help from other small businesses, vendors, professionals, government agencies, employees and trade associations. Be alert, ask questions, and learn everything you can.
  3. Money in the bank. Don’t quit your day job just yet. For those of you considering the full-time freelance plunge–set up a savings account with enough funds to cover at least six months’ worth of bills. This will give you a buffer to help with your budget. While hunger might be a good motivator, it’s easier to work your home business when you have electricity.
  4. Be Patient.  Every business takes time to develop and your home business is no different.  If you are operating your home business part-time it will take you a little longer.  The main thing to keep in mind is your “WHY”.  Why did you start? Why do you want your home business?  Be patient.  Follow your mentor, invest some of your money to expand and NEVER QUIT.
  5. All systems grow. Marketing is the best way to grow your business.  Take the advice of your mentor.  If Blogging is your business, write blogs daily.  Promote your blog on Twitter and Facebook.  Post on Squidoo and other social media platforms.  Get your name out to build your brand. Go to events–conferences, association meetings and seminars.

Question…”do I hand out business cards”?  My thoughts—NO!  Why? Have you ever received a business card and followed up with it?  Probably not.  I don’t have business cards and don’t recommend them.  Instead, let’s say you meet someone and you want to get more acquainted.  Get their name.  Tell them you would like to visit when you have some time to talk.  Thanks them and walk away.  Your next step is to call and make an appointment.  Easy and you didn’t have a business card.

With some advance planning, sound advice and a dedication to succeed, you can join the thousands of home business owners who have found their ideal work solution right in their own home.
