Mobile Marketing Basics

When developing a mobile marketing campaign, it is crucial to make sure your campaign works across all available platforms. You could miss out on reaching an important market segment if your ad doesn’t work!  Be sure to test your mobile advertising campaign on all mainstream devices.

Hand Shake 2Not everyone is technologically savvy, so if you are not so inclined, it may be best for you to hire someone to do your technical work for you.  While I’m not the most technical person I know when I am in trouble.  To begin, I went to a local Junior College and hired a college student for a few days to help me understand.  Not only did I get a great education, he set up the process for me.  The best part, he only wanted a small pay since we both learned from the experience.  He is now an advisor that I can go to for technical stuff.  If you don’t have a local college, seek out someone with some knowledge but you should look heavily into this person’s background to make sure they are professional, especially if they will be a permanent member of your team.

Make sure that your site and/or ads are consistent across multiple formats. Not every mobile technology is the same, so you may need to adapt to them all. There’s nothing worse than working hard on a mobile campaign just to find out that people using a certain type of mobile OS are having trouble accessing it.  That is just a waste of your time.

All mobile marketers would do well to remember that mobile marketing is not a typical marketing strategy.  In fact, it isn’t really a strategy at all.  It’s simply a means of communication.  Trying to approach mobile marketing like basic internet marketing, just will not work out.  Understand what mobile marketing is and how it differs from other marketing methods is time well spent.   This is a growing field and the more you can study the better you will be.  Best advice is “don’t be afraid to make a mistake”.  Mistakes will be made, from which you will learn.

Making Mistakes Is A Great Learning Tool

A good friend is now one of the top Internet Marketer Expert around.  But it wasn’t always that way.  For several years he struggled to learn, made many mistakes, lost business and became frustrated.  Today he is sought after for advice.  How does this relate?  Mobile Marketing is new and growing.  To be sought after, you will need to learn, make mistakes, lose business and become frustrated.  But by keeping at it you can and could become sought after for your knowledge.

Although the number of mobile users is increasing, that doesn’t mean you can take your mobile marketing campaign outside of its respective niche and just advertise to a larger market. You still need to remain within the confines of your market. You will find that any niche gets larger, but attempting to attract people from outside it is just wasted effort.

Reminder Messages

Mail List 2Sending a reminder message about an upcoming sale or release of a new product is an excellent way to get your customers excited about what is going on. Always send the reminder a couple of hours ahead of time.  Avoid sending on weekends, holidays or after 9:00 PM.  Your customer will appreciate the fact you respect his or her time.  By sending a message days in advance creates a higher chance that the customer will forget.  Also don’t “over do it”.  Your customer could become immune to you or may be paying for the messages and could become irritated.

When you email your customers, you want to specifically ask them for their cell phone number. Tell them that if they give this information you will be able to text them discounts, news about a product and any other important announcement or events that your company has going on.

For all of your product sales and information, you want to set up a link for a mobile-specific landing page.  All phones need to be able to use a mobile friendly page, and you want that link to be very easy to find so that your customers can bookmark them directly on their phones and visit often.

Mobile Marketing is an interesting way to build your business.  No two businesses view everything the exact same way, nor do they market the same way. One person may think a particular method is the best ever while others may hate it with a passion. The information above will hopefully provide you with a base on which to begin your own strategy.

Mobile Marketing works if done correctly and with professionalism.  Learning how to do mobile marketing may take you some time to develop, but this is a growing field and one that you need to take seriously.
