You might be saying, “I know marketing and how to market on the Internet. What can I learn from children?” “After all I’m a professional marketer, and I have children. What can they teach me?”
Well here are my 3 Internet Marketing Tips That You Can Learn From Children
Anyone who has been around children knows how good they can be when they want something. Without knowing anything about marketing these little ones are masters. If we as adults can master these techniques that come natural to our children the world will be at our door steps.
I have a 6 year old girl full of energy, the cutest smile and bluest eyes you will ever see. When she turns on her charm and markets her skills there is nothing I can do but to give in. That pint size golden hair, blue eyed girl knows how to get what she wants.
If you want to learn how to do Internet Marketing. If you want to add excitement to your Internet Marketing. If you want your customers to keep coming back, ask any child.
- Children Have A Wild Imagination
There was a TV show called “Kids Say The Darndest Things”. Art Linkletter hosted the show but the kids were the stars. He would ask any five year old about (something)..and they would tell stories. Remember the stories don’t have to be true. Using their imagination that cute little package can suck almost anyone in with their wild imagination. They can create childlike details to every experience. The song, “Puff The Magic Dragon” is an example of Imagination. When Jackie Paper grew up he lost his Imagination and Puff ceased to exist.
Need a superstar to help with your marketing? Ask any child. Want a YouTube video, talk to a child. Want some stories for your blog ask a kid and you’re sure to get some great stories or at least some good ideas. Internet Marketing is not difficult, ask a child.
As adults we loose our imagination. We become logical always thinking about our ideas and the results of our efforts. We think to ourselves, “that won’t work”. Yet, a five year old has no concept of failure, they run wild with creative imagination and gets it done.
- Boring, Not Children
Have you ever seen a boring child? Let me define boring: to make weary with repetition, tedium or dullness. Kids are not boring! They’re excited by every little thing, laugh at the smallest funny face or run with excitement when you come home. I showed our girl a caterpillar. Her wide eyes were focused with excitement as the caterpillar walked across my hand. As an adult that was just a caterpillar. We’ve all seen boring adults and boring brands. We want to be “safe”, “this is the way it’s always been done”. BORING. At the time of this writing, the economy is tough. SO WHAT! Whoopee!
The child says, “Tough”..and makes an arm muscle. Can I play outside? Or I’m having a tea party and daddy will you sit with me?
What am I getting at? As adults we worry about our image, economy, things. “Will they like me”? The child doesn’t care. Do this – Forget About The Things You Can’t Control And Do The Things You Can Control!!
- Children are Fearless
Children get so excited attempting things without thought or fear of failure. And sometimes they fall down. As adults it scares us. But kids get back up and try it again until they get it right.
I’m reminded of a Kenny Rogers song about a little boy playing baseball. He throws the ball in the air and tried to hit it with his bat. The ball falls to the ground. He tries again and the ball falls to the ground. The third throw and the ball falls to the ground. As an adult we think “strike-out”. But as the little boy goes home he thinks, “I’m a great pitcher”. He’s thinking success not failing.
As Internet Marketers, we fear attempting something new or different. We fear backlash at our ideas, “what will people think”? We fear failure.
Kids push boundaries. That’s how they discover, that’s how they learn. That lack of fear leads to an amazing amount of knowledge in a short time. Adults, on the other hand don’t push boundaries, don’t discover and therefore don’t get the knowledge and recognition our Internet Marketing deserves.
Use your Imagination – think outside of the box and do it different. Don’t be Boring – Be creative – Boring can be fatal. Be Fearless – learn from your mistakes – pick yourself up and do it again. DON’T FEAR FAILURE – EMBRESS IT.
