If you are serious about Affiliate Marketing (and you really should), do your research. Many beginners as well as season pros make this critical mistake.
I follow some really basic rules before ever getting serious about my or any affiliate program.
- I only recommend products as an affiliate that I’m extremely very familiar with – preferably products that I’ve used before and have helped me achieve something. If I’m not confident in the product and I don’t feel it will positively help people, I will not promote it.
- I never directly tell anyone to buy a product. I always recommend products based on my experience and in the context of what I’ve done or what I’m doing.

Sit back and take it easy. Everyone has a different way of doing marketing and strategies. You don’t have to jump at the first affiliate program just because it sounded “Too GOOD to be TRUE.” Do your research.
You may get the impression that you must have some kind of “secret system” or special software or something else that so-called guru’s just want to sell you. No true!
First off there is no “secret system.” What you may find is someone who is a professional and will share his or her knowledge with a sign-up membership. That’s okay as long as you have a “way out” if you don’t like the affiliate program.
I’m going to tell you how to start affiliate marketing in the most simplest of terms. This isn’t some get-rich-quick garbage and I’m not going to be sharing some “secret system”. What I am about to share is so simple, but it really is all you need to know about affiliate marketing. Notice how I said simple. That doesn’t mean easy.
The truth is, affiliate marketing is about as simple as it gets. I’ve been an affiliate marketer for quite some time and my strategy has evolved over the years to where it now makes me money. I can tell you I have make mistakes that’s normal. I will tell you I have looked for the SECRET. It wasn’t there. I quit frankly got tired of all the affiliate scams and people trying to tell me how I can make money with little or no work. That’s not possible.

So what makes affiliate marketing hard? It takes commitment, long-term dedication, focus and more patience than most people have. If you have the patience required, able to focus and commitment to succeed with affiliate marketing, you have the chance to make more money than you ever dreamed of.
There is also one more ingredient: Some one to mentor you and coach you to success. A product people want. A strategic plan that is simple.

Step 1: Choose A Niche
The key to affiliate marketing is finding a niche or product people want. You need to find a product that you are interested in (preferably passionate about) and something with enough money making potential, but not too much competition. The problem is, as a brand new affiliate marketer, how are you supposed to know how to find a great niche and a product you’re interested in that has money making potential without too much competition?
Answer: You can’t possibly know.
So, either you go out there and try to figure it out as you go along, or you save yourself the weeks, months, and possibly years of lost time and learn from someone who has put in those years already. Step 2: Have a Blog or Website
For those of you who aren’t very technical, not to worry. Sitting up a blog or website is really very easy. I recommend WordPress as your site. WordPress is by far the most popular.
What I personally use is… WordPress. That is the very same platform this blog is built upon. In fact, ALL of my sites are on WordPress. Most of you have probably heard about WordPress before, but maybe you’re a bit intimidated or you’ve tried to start one and you get stuck, frustrated, and never return.
Find someone to set up your blog for you. Your time is too valuable to do this. It will save you time and frustration. Look at Fivver and Odesk. For a few dollars they will design a blog or website for you. Of course there are others. Google for blog designers and you will find pages of good people.

Step 3: Frustration
First of all, welcome to affiliate marketing! You’re going to run into situations where you get frustrated and can’t figure something out. The real winners are those who push through and refuse to give up. Truth be told, the most difficult aspect of marketing is, frustration. You will be frustrated and willing to quit. Never quit…your success is dependent upon working through the minor set backs.
And your first one may be setting up a website or blog. However once it is up and running, the rest is easy. Hire someone!
Marketing is trial and error. What is successful today may not be tomorrow. So you will be a student of marketing. Frustration is going to happen. Learn and move on.
There are a ton of videos on YouTube that will help you through, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and a host of other marketing programs. Plus YouTube is a great source of inspiration and what I like to call “ah-ha” moments.
Understand, you will become frustrated…that is normal. Your job is not to let it get to you. Take a deep breath, relax and move on.

Step 4: Create Content, Good Content, And Then Great Content
There is a well known term in the affiliate marketing industry and you may have already heard it. The term is Content Is KING!
Affiliate marketing is primarily driven by content creation. There are some exceptions to this rule, but I personally have used content marketing as my primary affiliate marketing strategy since day 1 and it has worked out extremely well for me.
Just take a look around this blog. I have created hundreds of articles on blogging, how to blog, work at home, tips and trick, affiliate marketing and “how-to” many on affiliate marketing and network marketing.
This is where most people fail. Finding a good affiliate marketing niche is relatively easy. Building a nice blog is even easier. Creating hundreds or thousands of high quality content pages? Not so easy. This is where patience, experience and focus comes into play.
Here is the truth about how long this is going to take to start seeing results with your blog or even making money with your blog. . If you start creating content on your blog today, you should be able to start making money in 6 to 12 months, assuming you work on the site for at least an hour or two every day.
With that said, you can help reduce the amount of time it takes by learning how to properly create content that both people and search engines love. You can also get a kick-start by getting articles to go viral in social media. A Good Copy Writing course is a great way to start.
Step 5: Implement Your Money Making Plan
Most people who start affiliate marketing focus on making money first. This is a huge mistake. You must provide value to others before you can realistically expect anyone to pay you. It’s called Attraction Marketing. First, you must provide value to your blog visitors. When you do that, your blog will raise in popularity from the search engines (SEO), social media, and other forms of exposure. Once you have traffic, you then are able to provide value to on your highly targeted blog traffic.
Any affiliate marketing business usually boils down to what is known as the CTPM process:
C = Content
T = Traffic
P = Pre-Sell
M = Monetize
By creating high quality content, you will begin to receive lots of traffic, especially from search engines. You can then pre-sell that traffic by earning their trust, again Attraction Marketing. That way when you make recommendations and attempt to refer them to your affiliate program. That’s when you monetize or Make Money.
Monetizing comes LAST!
Now, finding a monetizing plan is easy. Say you create a blog about weekend cooking. You can just go to Google and type in “Cooking Affiliate Program” at which point, you’ll be greeted with dozens of affiliate programs you can join. You can also sign up for services like ClickBank.com and get access to thousands of products/services to promote. Honestly, monetizing is the easy part once you have the traffic.
Content leads to traffic…traffic leads to pre-sell…pre-sell leads to a purchase….and a purchase leads to Money. That is what makes making money with an affiliate program easy.
