To be a better blogger is not that difficult. In an earlier blog, I outlined Rising To The Top With Your Very Own Blog in which I talked about the most critical component…CONTENT.
Content is king and should not be overlooked. Most armature bloggers miss this critical component and therefore never get ranked on Google. The second mistake, is infrequent blogging. Many bloggers start out creating a blog post but over time, the only blog when they “feel good” or when they “want to.” Success to blogging is daily or at a minimum weekly.
Here I have outlined “10 Tips To Become A Better Blogger.” Are there more than 10 Tips? YES but this will be a good start. Also refer back to previous articles, shown above.
This blog is to help the newbie’s get started with a blog. This article covers some good practices that you should develop to become a better blogger.
1. Choosing A Topic For Your Blog
There is a debate on which path to go down when choosing the topic for your blog. Some professionals will advise you to find a niche that people spend money on and focus purely on the profitability. Others will say don’t go for the money, focus on your passion because things that you personally enjoy and know about will be easy to create good content on and in the process you will make money. That’s your decision. From experience, I can tell you that most people look to a blog to solve issues, answers to problems, entertainment or reviews.
2. Your Comfort Zone
We all have a comfort zone in which we surround ourselves. You might be an expert on the topic that you cover but it can become boring if you write from the same angle all the time. Get out of your comfort zone, learn more about additional areas of your topic and present some interesting facts of your discovery to your readers and they will respect your effort.
Example: You may be an expert on Home Based Business or Business Opportunities. That is your comfort zone. Move outside and think of other area Relate Topics To Home Based Business, that may offer additional help or tips. As the name says, Home Based Business..many of these are operated at home. And the major tool is a computer. Write an article on computers…which is better for a home business, a PC or Mac?
3. Be Yourself and Unique Style
Trying to be something your not will show up sooner or later. Be yourself, create a style that is unique to you. If you write about something technical, think how you can make it easy for the average readers who are not very familiar with the technical terms. If you noticed, at the very begging of this blog post, I directed the reader to Wikipedia to get better informed on Blogs. While I could have taken the time to do it myself, Wikipedia has a whole article on the subject. This give me time to get into information, suggestions and tips. S the question is, “Why should visitors keep coming to your blog when other bloggers are also writing on the same topic?” It is your unique styles that will help you stand out in the crowd and make your blog different than a regular one.
4. Passion And Credibility
Building your reputation is very important. You need to gain the trust of your readers before they listen to you. If you talk about Home Based Business or MLM, then you need to let your readers know how passionate you are about it. This is where choosing a blog topic that you are passionate about helps. Let your readers know how involved you are and what you have achieved so far. Humans can smell a fake very easily so don’t just lie to your readers as this will ruin your credibility. The visitors who will be coming to your blog are most likely passionate about your blog topic so if you are not seriously involved then why should they listen to you and read your blog?
5. Who Are Your Readers
If you have a good understanding of your reader’s motivation, passion, and needs then it will be a lot easier for you to write articles that your readers will appreciate. Visitors most likely come to your blog because they either want to learn something or they are looking for a solution so you need to provide them with what they are after. Try to put yourself in their shoe and be on the lookout as to how you can satisfy them.
6. Consistent
Consistency is one of the keys to be a successful blogger. Make a routine of how often you want to publish new posts on your blog and try to stick to this routine. Think in terms of adding tons of value consistently. Personal recommendation is to post a blog daily. Too much? The at a minimum one a week. Do this on a consistent basis, and you will get noticed. If your blog is to sell or offer a product you will soon find your efforts will pay off and soon be making money with your blog.
7. Get To The Point
The trick is to get your readers’ attention quickly. Statistics show that on an average most readers will decide if they are going to read the full post or not in the first few seconds after they land on an article. Having a nicely formatted structured post with short paragraphs and bullet point does the job. Don’t make the post unnecessarily long, divide them into short paragraphs and use bullet points or numbered list for ease of reading. Also use sub-heading so the readers can easily find the information they are looking for and always stay on topic. If you fill up your post with irrelevant information, readers will loose interest and leave your blog.
8. Proofread Before Publishing
Here is what I used to do. I would create an article and hurry to get it published, then go to writing another article. Proofreading was not in my agenda. I rarely spend any time to find spelling and grammatical errors. Lots of grammatical and spelling mistakes on an article will turn off the readers. So proofread your article before you hit the publish button. Does it have to be perfect? NO. Mistake are made and that is Okay, but not a lot of errors. Spend some time on proofreading, this can help greatly when you are starting out as it’s hard to find your own mistakes at first.
9. Get Your Readers Involved
As mentioned before, a blog is more interactive than a traditional website which is the reason blogs are so popular. Through interaction you can create a good bonding with your readers. So try to get your readers involved in your blog by asking them to leave comments, participating in surveys etc. Another suggestion is to ask..”What would you like to see or do you have a suggestion for a topic?” Your visitors will love you for it since it gives them a sense of ownership and you get a better idea on what your readers want. And always reply to the comments from your visitors. Good or bad your attention to a reply will go along way and show you care about your visitors.
10. No Shortcuts
You need to understand that there are no shortcuts to success and it’s definitely not going to come overnight. Try to add value to the community, be consistent, hard working and patient and blog success will follow.
I sure hope this 10 Tips To Become A Better Blogger helped. Blogging is an art. Only time and experience will get you to become a better blogger.
