Another Look At Motivation:

Motivation is what pushes us to achieve our goals, feel more fulfilled and improve overall quality of life.
Daniel Goleman, the author of several seminal books on Emotional Intelligence, identified four elements that make up motivation:
• Personal drive to achieve, the desire to improve or to meet certain standards;
• Commitment to personal or organizational goals;
• Initiative, which he defined as ‘readiness to act on opportunities’; and
• Optimism, the ability to keep going and pursue goals in the face of setbacks.
There are many advantages to self-motivation. People who are self-motivated, for example, tend to be more organised, have good time management skills and more self-esteem and confidence.
Understanding and developing your self-motivation can help you to take control of many other aspects of your life.

What is Your Motive?
Fundamental to self-motivation is understanding what motivates you to do things.
This may sound straightforward but sometimes your motivation is hidden from your consciousness – your own personal hidden agenda. Your motivation may well change from hour-to-hour, day-to-day and through life. As this happens your needs, wants and goals change and evolve.
Self Motivation
Now that we know the definition for Motivation…What is Self Motivation?
“Self-motivation is, in its simplest form, the force that drives you to do things.”
Self-motivation is far from being a simple topic; there are many self motivation books, web sites and articles that attempt to explain self-motivation and some top academics have dedicated their life’s work to trying to understand, model and develop motivation theory.
Self-motivation is a key life skill and something that everybody interested in personal development should think carefully about. It is also a key part of emotional intelligence, one of the three areas of personal skills that are integral to the concept.
Unlike many elements required for success–financing, connections, experience, or education–self-motivation lies entirely within your control. It doesn’t matter who or where you are. You can always motivate yourself to take action.
Self-motivation is like a muscle; the more you use it, the stronger it becomes. And like a muscle, it needs to be exercised in different ways so it becomes resilient and always ready to serve your goals.
There are multiple methods for strengthening your self-motivation. Some of these techniques you can apply immediately, while others lay the groundwork for making self-motivation into a daily habit.
Motivate Yourself Now
The easiest way to get yourself motivated is to surround yourself with people who are also motivated.
Google…”Motivational Quotes” and you will find hundreds of quotes from various people as:
Confucius… Eleanor Roosevelt… Walt Disney… Mark Twain… Norman Vincent Peale… Robert H. Schuller… Steve Jobs… Mark Twain…and a host of others.
Great books such as: Think and Grow Rich….See You At the Top…. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People… How to Win Friends & Influence People… Awaken the Giant Within…The Power of Positive Thinking…shop for your own favorite book.
Moving Forward
As I mentioned before, you must build your self-motivation “muscle” so that it can sustain you through any doldrums and delays you might encounter.
I firmly believe that the absolute best way to achieve long-term self-motivation is to read (and reread) the classics as mentioned above as well as many of Zig Ziglar and Jim Rohn books.
Another trick: You can make motivational books more compelling by listening to them. So rather than just buy books, buy audio books, so that you can listen to them whenever you have alone time.
Broaden Your Motivation
As I’m sure you can imagine, I’m a very self-motivated person. But even the most motivational people sometimes fall into a less than motivated state. Many people will suffer this state and it is very difficult to get out. Being self employed everyday is an emotional day. I can’t afford to let my “doldrums” affect my day to day emotions.
Here is my personal formula for getting back into a motivated state. I first read a few quotes. That starts my rethinking. Second I pick up my favorite book and read it. That book is Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Why this book? Easy to read and quick. I can read the book in less than an hour.
Finallly
Motivation, Self Motivation, Motivational Books and Motivational Quotes are all tools to help you. When used daily the brain has a way of making all things possible.
It is not that hard to stay motivated by surrounding yourself with positive people. People who have a goal in life and in business.
