In this article, i will be discussing Inconsistency and more important: Network Marketing Inconsistency and how it destroys Momentum, What To Do to regain momentum.
One of the biggest problems with Network Marketing and the lack of success is INCONSISTENCY.
Inconsistency will kill any momentum you may have built with your business opportunity, and once you loose momentum it is hard to recover.
So before we tackle the issues of inconsistency let find out what INCONSISTENCY means: Not regular or predictable; erratic: inconsistent behavior.
Now lets look at MOMENTUM: force or speed of movement; impetus, as of a physical object or course of events:
One of the key causes of poor performing distributors or your personal business is inconsistent leadership or action.
Also as a distributor, your business is taking daily action. That doesn’t call for recruiting Every Day, or Selling a product every day, but what it means is doing something every day to expand your business.
As you roll your eyes back shaking your head and, “If not recruiting or selling every day, how do I grow a business?
Let’s tackle that. But first, Inconsistency.
Inconsistency
Not only does inconsistency slow YOU down it is also very frustrating to YOUR distributors. They never know when your working or relaxing.
When you recruited or signed someone into your business, you have an obligation to them.
Now I don’t mean that you have to build their business, that is their obligation. But what I mean is that your obligation is to help them when they are stuck. To help them understand how network marketing works, to be there when they face a “road block” and how to over come it or how to avoid the road block in the future.
That Is Your Obligation.
As a leader in your business, by not being there for your distributors when they are in need of support, will send a poor message to them and your team. In fact, it may even create inconsistency in your downline because the see you doing it….lack of support!
You don’t want to be the kind of inconsistent leader that is sometimes there, and then sometimes not. The one who “disappears” after you sign someone into the business.
If your in network marketing for sometime, I know you have seen this or maybe experienced it yourself.
Your sponsor signed you up…they spent several days with you or offered some guidance…they may have even made some phone calls for you…but then they disappeared.
The daily phone calls or emails stopped. The “Hi How Are You Doing?” has all but disappeared.
I know of sponsors who may return a phone call or not.
From personal experience, I need my sponsor for a group meet I set up. This was my first big meeting with 12 invited people. I was nervous, not unprepared but lacking the “words.” As I said, this was my first big meeting and most were “Strangers” who I met through someone else or recently met. My sponsor knew of this meet 4 days in advance. Or what I thought they knew. I made repeated phone call over the 4 days and even up to several hours before the big even. None of my calls were returned, not even an email.
I did the meeting. Struggled YES. At the end of the event, 1 person signed-up. After 3 weeks they quit. I partly blamed myself. I don’t believe my invited guests were “comfortable” with me, and/or belive me, and/or didn’t hear the “words” they needed to relate to the business.
I thought my sponsor was to HELP, not to build my business but to help and support me.
What went wrong? Insistence. My sponsor would WORK when he wanted and not WORK when he also wanted.
If your behavior, such as my sponsor is all over the board, it’s likely your distributors will performance as you do.
Because my sponsor was insistence, I struggled with consistency or lack there of because of lack of leadership. I found it hard to be consist. That all changed later in my network marketing career.
Whether you’re new or you’re a more established leader, inconsistency will be one of the biggest detractors from your success and your distributors.
Network Marketing Inconsistency and What It Looks Like
In this scenario, the individual has been in network marketing for months, maybe a year. He/she has built a team of let’s say, 10-12 people. The network marketing company has just completed a two day event in Las Vegas in which this person attended. For the sake of clarification we will call this person Mike. For any Mikes, sorry. I happen to like the name.
So Mike attended the network marketing’s conference. Mike listened to others and how they were building their business. Some even received achievement awards. The company even announced new products, updated payouts, new website and new recruiting methods. Mike met some of the leaders and even the founders of the company. For two days Mike was excited. He was excite to go, but now more excited by what he learned at the conference and now ready to come home and ready to tear it up. Mike took the next day off to “gather” all his notes. It was then midweek and Mike had a few things to do, but promised he would get together with the team. It’s now the weekend and not a good time to disturb anyone, but come Monday…. Two weeks later Mike’s excitement was there but not like last week. Mike somewhat disappeared for the next two weeks saying; “It just not the right time.” Mike finally engage with the team, “Hey, we’re going to go after it this week.” But by now all Mike learned at the conference was the past. His half hearted “go after it this week” was not quite the same as if he were to have had this engagement two weeks ago.
Is this real? Of course it is. Some people are experts in putting off today for tomorrow. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” It’s good advice for all of us.
I made a small change, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you SHOULD do today.”
So ask yourself right now, what is it that you SHOULD do TODAY that couldn’t be put off until tomorrow. What’s really important to you? What should be a priority in your life? Maybe you’ve been putting something off contacting your team or someone in the team that needs your support.
So don’t put off until tomorrow what you SHOULD do today.
Make a list right now of five things that really shouldn’t wait, things you may have been putting off either intentionally or unintentionally. Maybe it’s calling a long-lost friend or going to visit someone you haven’t seen in some time. Maybe it’s as I said, contacting your team. I’m sure coming up with just five things that truly deserve your attention won’t be difficult.
Put in consistence hours rather than the “hot and cold” efforts.
If you’re inconsistent for long enough and you say, “Hey, everybody, let’s go. Let’s go tear it up!” don’t be surprised if no one follows. They may be afraid that if they do and you don’t follow through with your own commitment, they’re going to be unhappy that they trusted you.
Inconsistency will crush the efforts of any business builder. The solution: Be consistent.
“Don’t put off until tomorrow what you SHOULD do today.”
Momentum
Momentum is the “holy grail” of Network Marketing, Multi Level Marketing (MLM) and Direct Selling.
Momentum is hard to build, and easy to lose….
This business is the most exciting business in the world when you have momentum.
However, the opposite is very true as well. It’s the hardest business when you have no momentum.
I’ve had times in my Network Marketing business when I had momentum and I’ve had times in my business when I lost momentum.
Here is what you should know about momentum…
How to Create Momentum in Network Marketing
- Help your new person launch their business. Be there for them. Answer their questions
- Get them started the right way
- Help with real and unreal exceptions
- Treat every new person that signs up in your business like they will be a top earner… but might quit within 48 hours
- The way to start a fire is from the bottom up. Work with the newest person on the bottom of your legs
- Never forget to stay in contact with the whole team
- Reward your top producers and have them help with the team
- Create a “Day-A-Way” from the business. Then have them talk about what they did
I had the opportunity to meet and sit with Zig Ziglar during lunch in Dallas one Wednesday afternoon.
I’ll never forget a story he told me and two other friends. He told the story of a locomotive.
“To get a locomotive to move even one inch, you have to provide a lot of steam. You have to be consistence in providing the energy to build the steam. The wheels move one inch with all that power. Applying more energy the train moves another inch. As you keep applying consistence energy the wheels move even faster. After a while, you can back off the energy just a little, however the momentum keeps the train moving.”
Now Try To Stop The Train!
That’s the power of momentum.
Number One Killer Of Momentum
As you may have guest, the number one killer of momentum is a lack of Consistency.
Turn the kitchen faucet on. Run hot water…it is always hot. Turn the cold water on…its alway cold. Is it consistence? Of course.
Like yourself…you can either run Hot or you can choose to run Cold.
In my opinion, the number one killer of momentum is scrutinizing your results every few steps or days and being too hard on yourself for lack of results.
Trying to compare yourself is another killer. Comparing ourselves to others won’t help you. You are an individual and how you conduct your business an life style is different from anyone else.
The fact is, even the amazing sponsor machines didn’t start off fast, but they did get consistent.
Stop looking at your results every few days and just commit..commit to sticking with a routine that includes active prospecting for 30 straight days and then adjust the routine.
If you do this every month for at least six months, you will most likely outperform your previous year in network marketing. Build that momentum by being consistent and you will THANK YOURSELF for doing so!
Now Let’s Answer The Question, “If not recruiting or selling every day, how do you grow your business?
I said earlier, “Also as a distributor, your business is taking daily action. That doesn’t call for recruiting Every Day, or Selling a product every day, but what it means is doing something every day to expand your business.
As you roll your eyes back and a look of bewilderment, “If not recruiting or selling every day, how do I grow a business?”
So how do you grow your home based network marketing business?
There are many other things you can do:
- Read a motivation book such as: Think And Grow Rich, The Secret, Go For NO’s, How To Win Friends and Influence People, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, etc
- Read Network Marketing Books. Your First Year In Network Marketing, The 1-Page Marketing Plan, Network Marketing Successful Blueprint, Network Marketing Online, etc
- Review your marketing plan and make adjustments
- Practice answering potential questions
- How is your Elevator speech? Don’t have one? Create it. Practice until it becomes natural
- What do you know about Attraction Marketing?
- Contact your up-line and talk about his/her business
- Review your down-line. Does anyone need help?
- Check your list of names. Do you need to add or subtract?
- How are your presentation skills? Need tweaking?
- Review your goals. How are you doing? Need some revisions?
Do you have an Avatar? How to Create an Avatar or review and alter if necessary.
Elevator Speech
So when I said, “How is your elevator speech?” What does that mean?
What’s an elevator pitch, and how can it help your network marketing business?
Your at a gathering, kids school, sports event, bar, clubs, fairs, elevator or anywhere where people are gathering. Someone asks the question, “What do you do?”
Well for many we are taken back. We stammer, stumble and then throw out every word we ever heard. We go on for minutes and hours, boring the person who unfortunately ask the question.
Most of the time we talk about our JOB not really wanting them to know that you have a pert-time business.
So an elevator speech is a quick synopsis of you and what your doing without details. The reason it’s called an elevator speech is that it should be short enough to present during a brief elevator ride.
You need to be persuasive. Even though it’s a short pitch, your elevator speech should be compelling enough to spark the listener’s interest in you, your idea, organization, or background.
Practice, practice, practice. The best way to feel comfortable about giving an elevator speech is to practice it until the speed becomes natural, without sounding robotic. You will get used to varying the conversation as you practice doing so. The more you practice, the easier it will become.
Example: My name is Bob, and after years of working at a marketing company, I’m taking the plunge and opening my own business. We help people create new business or expand existing home business.
My name is Sarah, and I own and run a small business. It’s a family-owned business, and we think the personal touch makes a big difference to our business partners and our customers.
“My name is Mike. I help to establish small business, that develops leaders and free time to enjoy life as it should be. This means that senior managers can spend time on other important tasks such as family or adventures. Around 95% of our customer and partners are happy with us and what we have to offer.
By this time you may have sparked an interest. The person may say, “Interesting, what is the business or what kind of business is it?”
You don’t have time or able to go into details, so try to get their contact information. This is very difficult, but with practice, you can get very good. If they are unwilling, Fine. Just go about your business, they probably wouldn’t have work out anyway.
Remember, there are millions of people looking for you. That was just 1. And you didn’t need them anyway.
Attraction Marketing
Attraction marketing is taking all of your efforts and focusing them on making your brand more appealing to potential customers. The idea is to set you and your brand apart from others by pinpointing all of the things that make it more attractive. A key component of this type of strategy is making sure that you let potential customers know why they need to do business with you as opposed to all of the others. Once people are attracted to you and your business and the products and services that are being offered, this will translate to more sales and an increase in revenue.
Possibly one of the most useful parts of attraction marketing for your business is that you become the thought leader in your industry. Buyers as well as industry leaders will turn to your brand to help solve their problems as you make them more aware of the issues they face.
Attraction marketing is the key ingredient to a successful network marketing business.
With out Attraction Marketing in your business, your just “Shot Gunning Prospects.” Your hoping for the best. You hope to find a good business partner while struggling to keep the non-business builders.
Network Marketing is just a waste of time if your not implementing these proven concepts.
