First Question…Do You Like To Write?

Blogging is about writing. If you don’t like to write, you probably won’t enjoy blogging.  But if you’ve never tried writing, you may have an as yet undiscovered talent that you would enjoy.

Writing a blog is actually quite easy.  You don’t have to be a wizard at writing you just have to put down a few words, connect them together and post.  As you do you will find that it becomes easier and easier.  So try writing a few practice blog posts. Write about something interesting to you. If you enjoy writing, then blogging may be for you!

Here Is An Exercise

Close your eyes and do the following….forget that, if you close your eyes how can your read the rest of the exercise.

Okay let’s do this.  Imagine your flying over Chicago.  Again, you’re flying over Chicago in a yellow plane. The sky is blue and a couple of white clouds off in the distant. You look down and below you is a big marshmallow in Lake Michigan.  You fly a little lower and you see a couple of teenagers sitting on the marshmallow tearing off pieces of the marshmallow and putting the pieces in hot chocolate.  They wave at you and you are waving back.

Question…did you see the marshmallow?  Of course you did.  Did you see the kids on the marshmallow?  Of course you did.  You see writing is nothing more than telling a story.

Something You Know

Do you know how to plant a garden?  Or How To Loose Weight?  Or Wood Working?  Maybe you know How To Get Leads Through Facebook or Twitter.  Drawing, painting, how to sketch, making clothes or…..  you see it is easy.  Write about something you know, tell a story or “how to” and you will be an expert blogger.

Create a blogroll

A blogroll is a list of other blogs in your niche that you find valuable. Creating such a list increases your blog’s value to readers, as they may be able to find content that they couldn’t find on your blog. If you use your blog for marketing, a blogroll will also increase your credibility in the marketplace.

Ensure that the titles of your blog posts are very catchy. Imagine that you are someone who is just browsing the Internet and you see your blog post among thousands of others.  Would you read it or just keep looking?  In the beginning you will find that your blog will get lost among the others, but with a little practice and time, your will soon get noticed and the readers will come.  You should ensure that your blog headline sticks out from the rest.

Social Media

Don’t forget to add social media sharing links on your blog.  Sites like Facebook, Twitter, Squidoo, Linkedin, Pentrest and a host of other social media sites will get you noticed.  When you get noticed, you get traffic and when you get traffic you will make money with your blog if that is the intent.

Social Media will ensure that people can share your blog on their profiles for free. Doing this can increase your traffic quite a bit. It will keep increasing if the content’s good because people can tell their friends which puts you on multiple pages at once.

Find Your Audience

Post content that will be relevant to your readers. Instead of blogging about your everyday life, offer tips and tricks to your readers to go along with your subject matter.  Again, your blog is “How To Loose Weight”, stay with the subject.  What I see many armatures do is write about something but send the reader to something different.  This makes no since.

For example: Your blog is “How To Loose Weight” but you write about “Dog Traning”.  It make no since.  Or another example:  you write in your blog about how to train your dog, then send your readers to a “weight loss program”.  It make no since.  But I see this all the time.  Stay with the subject and refer them to something that relates.

Hit The Publish Button

Think of your blog posts as travelers. When you have clicked the publish button, the blog post will continue to survive on its own. Your blog post then becomes a traveler.  Giving your posts what people are looking for and the post will be read for years.

A good friend wrote a blog post 4 years ago and he still gets people commenting on it today.
