If you have an affiliate marketing business you already know what Disappointment is like. Affiliate marketing disappointment can range from:
- Not being able to find a good niche
- How to promote your niche
- What social media to use
- Working hard and getting nowhere
- Disappointed in not being able to make money
Before I start with this article “Affiliate Marketing Disappointment”, let see what Wikipedia has defined as Disappointed:
Disappointment: is the feeling of dissatisfaction that follows the failure of expectations or hopes to manifest. Similar to regret, it differs in that a person who feels regret focuses primarily on the personal choices that contributed to a poor outcome, while a person feeling disappointment focuses on the outcome itself. It is a source of psychological stress. The study of disappointment—its causes, impact, and the degree to which individual decisions are motivated by a desire to avoid it—is a focus in the field of decision analysis, as disappointment is, along with regret, one of two primary emotions involved in decision-making.
Introduction
You maybe changing from a network marketing program to an affiliate marketing program because of your lack of success.
Is affiliate marketing better? In my opinion YES. However, there many that have had success in network marketing.
Can you? YES.
I’ve been there so I know how network marketing works.
You Joined Network Marketing, Now What?
So you joined a Network Marketing company, had high hopes but are now dealing with disappointment? First you need to examine why your disappointed.
A good friend and highly successful in network marketing told me do this one thing whenever I became disappointed in “something.”
“Write a note to yourself about the Disappointment and place the note in a paper bag. Roll up the paper bag and throw it away.” Did it help? NO, but I felt better.
When you were introduced to Network Marketing it’s common for that person to “hype” you into joining an opportunity. Many amateur network marketers are so desperate for a sale that they will literally say ANYTHING to get you to sign up.
These people think that network marketing recruiting is all about making a sale and hoping for the best.
- So maybe you were brought in by one of these amateurs.
- Maybe they promised you everything you have ever dreamed of.
- Maybe they told you stories that were “over the top” just to get you signed.
Because they were amateurs or maybe they were shyster they disappeared as soon as the ink was dry on your distributor application.
Several days or weeks later, it finally hit you. All that “hype” required Work, work that was not explained to you.
What to do now?
Identify why you joined:
- Was it to control your own time?
- You want to quit your job?
- Maybe wanted to make more money?
- You wanted to work from home?
- Or you wanted to pay off all you bills and be financially free?
- A new house, car, boat, travel or …?
If you recall the presentation, many if not all of these WANTS were presented to you. And now you have to something to make all these WANTS come true.
Again, Identify why you joined.
If you joined because of all the crazy promises your presenter promised you, and of how easy it was going to be, and that you can make money while you sleep and this is why you signed up, no offense this just may not be the profession for you.
Network Marketing Is Hard Work. Ask any successful network marketer and they will tell you that they had to work for months or years to learn how to be successful in this business.
However
If you joined because you caught a glimpse of what life could be if you controlled your own time, started making more money and creating the ability to spend more time with loved ones, then stop worrying so much about how you were brought in and get to work on doing something about it!
The same network marketing professional who told me to write a note an place in a paper bag also told me something I had never thought about.
That was, you don’t NEED a great up-line. This is YOUR business and you can choose to start, right now. You can create the business and life of your dreams. Your up-line is there only to support NOT to build your business. It is going to take WORK and it isn’t going to be easy, but it WILL be worth it and the feeling of accomplishment.
Robert Klyosaki said, “The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire; the size of your dream; and how you handle disappointment along the way.”
H. Jackson Brown Jr. said, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
All That Was Great But…
I was still struggling. I did what I was told, and still no success.
I made a list (which was stupid) and call everyone on the list. Nothing!
I was told to wear a button, place notes on car windows, in apartments, stores, hand out at train stations and a lot of other unprofessional ways to recruit.
Then a successful marketer said, “To be successful you need an Army of people.” “For every 100 people you talk to 10 will join.” “For every 10 who join 1 maybe 2 will grow with you.”
I was then the real disappointment set in.
To make the income I wanted I need 2-3 thousand people in my business.
Then There Was Leadership
The reality of leadership is:
“The higher the level of leadership, the more skills you’ll need to develop.”
Why?
Because there will be more disappointments!
As you develop large organizations, there are just more things that can go wrong.
There are more people and any time you get a lot of people together something can go wrong!
“If you’re not prepared for disappointments, you’re not prepared for leadership.”
My upline said, “We’ve got to stop expecting everything to be perfect all the time. Great leaders become great leaders because they become good at disciplining their disappointments and handling challenges.
Instead of wishing there were fewer challenges, be grateful for the challenge. If there weren’t a lot of challenges, you wouldn’t really be a great leader, would you?”
Disappointment
Disappointment is one of the word everyone hates. Disappointment can lead people to different directions. It can be explained as the feeling of dissatisfaction that follows the failure of expectations or hopes.
Before starting my journey I have been a victim of a few scam.
I contribute this because of my eagerness to start a business at home and doing my due-diligence.
My disappointment came in with one of these scams. Actually Scam is a wrong word. The company itself was founded by some very successful marketing people. People known in the network marketing business as top producers.
Where my disappointment came in was a lot hype. Good hype but never the less hype. Then there was the constant “up sell.” I was told, “To be better at XXX, you need to spend more $$.” Every webinar was another product, another up sell. After $3,500 dollars, I finally had enough. Is the company still going strong? Yes. Is a great business opportunity? Yes.
I was disappointed because I wasn’t getting what I needed or wanted.
I tried another company from a top network marketer. I spent $2,500 to become a VIP. A title not worthy of the price.
Unfortunately it was a recommendation from an acquaintance. He was a person known for jumping from one business opportunity to another. Well he got me on this one.
Over time I learned that the company leaders and founders were just money grabbers. While the company grew to hundreds and thousands of people, the leaders were hyping more and more up grades. Webinars and events were un-professional.
Was this company a great company to stay with? NO! Was this a company with good leadership? NO! Have they fallen out of favor? Thankfully YES! Did I quit? In a heart beat.
So is disappointment all a round us? Of course. Can you learn from disappointment? You Actually can…YES!
So, it took me a many months before I realize that, I was thinking it’s just a process of sitting down, and get rich without any personal effort.
Was I looking for more money? At the beginning YES! But as I looked inside myself, it wasn’t so much money (Oh it will be there) it was the desire to own a personal business.
There Will Always Be Disappointments
One thing you need to understand about Marketing is that no matter what you do there will be disappointment.
There will be things that don’t work, plans that fall apart, people who don’t live up to their word, unexpected changes, and adversity. When those disappointments come, don’t let them own you and control you. Keep in mind: You can control your level of disappointment and how long you let it affect you.
A House Without A Foundation
Yes, I finally realize that the journey I was taking was like building a house without a foundation. It will fall one day.
So, as I said, I sat down and took a good look at myself. I made a decision to go back and restart everything new.
I soon realized that making money was only a bi-product. Build a solid foundation, and the money will come.
That’s when I took my own advice and seriously spent months researching. When I found something, I didn’t “Jump” into like I use to do, but instead dug deeper. By doing so, I was amazed on how many business opportunities I rejected. I was also amazed on how many opportunities, I put on the side to look further into.
I realized that this was not a race, but calculated action to find a business I could get inspired and motived with…one that when I located it I could take immediate action.
That was my own advice and I did take it seriously.
Again, A house without a strong foundation cannot stand for long. Find something you liked, something that appeals to you, build on it by setting your foundation and then grow.
Finally, I make a life changing decision, Don’t jump at the first business opportunity, learning is basic, deal with disappointment as training, and the principal tool or key to succeed in life is doing what others will not do!
Where Did I End Up ?
After spending 6 months learning about myself, my desires and dreams, I came upon a company by chance that seemed to fill in the voids left by the other two.
It’s interesting that when you actually do the work, don’t rush, research, something good will come out of it.
I examined myself and realized that Network Marketing was not the right business model for me.
As I look further, something popped up. No recruiting, no in home presentations, no rejections, no stocking of product….etc.
AFFILIATE MARKETING
But I wasn’t ready to pull the trigger just yet. I did more research about the business model of affiliate marketing.
- “Can I make money with affiliate marketing?”
- “What is the best affiliate marketing program?”
- “Why affiliate marketing?”
- “How do I start an affiliate marketing business?”
I want answers to these question before changing from network marketing to affiliate marketing.
True story: My wife and I was at restaurant having lunch when I overheard a conversation at a table behind me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not an eavesdropper. However, there were a couple of words that hit me.
Remember It has been over 6 months researching myself and what I was looking for, so a couple words hit me hard.
I excused myself for interrupting. I made a few comments on what I heard and apologized. It just so happened the person I was interrupting was a highly successful affiliate marketer.
He quit network marketing years ago because of all the drama and, like me looked at something new.
The old adage came to mind, and that is: “If you seek what you desire, something will happen to get you there.”
What were the chances of having lunch in a city I was visiting, not looking for a business at that time, and overhearing a few words from a stranger that cause me to do something I never do…interrupt.
About an hour later, we parted. We flew back home with a better understand on what I was looking for.
Is Affiliate Marketing For You?

What I do know is that if your are looking to start a home based business with no hype, but only real results…then Affiliate Marketing could be your answer to your success.
What I do know is that if your willing to WORK at your business, follow what the leaders are telling you to do…you have a better chance of success in what ever you decide to do.
What I do know is that if your struggling to find a legit business that you can be proud of…then take a good look at affiliate marketing.
And what I do know is that if your willing to accept some disappointments, learn form those disappointments, ask for help to overcome disappointments and never ever quit because of little set-backs….then success in in your grasp.
